About Remove AI Metadata

What Remove AI Metadata is, how it inspects and cleans images inside your browser, what reaches our server, when it launched and how to reach us.

Remove AI Metadata (RemoveAIMetadata.com) is a browser-based image metadata inspector and privacy cleaner. You add a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image, see what the file reveals (GPS location, EXIF camera and device data, XMP and IPTC fields, the prompt and workflow that Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI store in a PNG, C2PA Content Credentials and AI generation tags) and download a clean copy. The images never leave your device.

The product launched on July 7, 2026. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with OpenAI, Google, Meta, Adobe, Midjourney, Stability AI or the C2PA.

How it works

Everything that touches your image runs in the page, on your own device:

  1. Reading. The page reads the file you pick or drop with your browser's file API. It is not sent anywhere.
  2. Inspecting. The scanner walks through the file's JPEG segments, PNG chunks and WebP chunks, reads EXIF, GPS, XMP and IPTC fields, and opens C2PA Content Credentials with the Content Authenticity Initiative's open-source c2pa-web library, which shows who signed the record (the issuer), which app created it and whether it validates. HEIC photos are decoded locally first.
  3. Cleaning. Lossless strip (PNG and JPEG) removes the metadata blocks and leaves the image data untouched. Redraw paints the pixels onto a canvas and encodes a brand-new JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF file that carries no metadata.
  4. Checking. Every clean file is scanned again, and the page shows its SHA-256 hash before and after, so you can see the result instead of taking our word for it.

What reaches our server

  • No image data. Images, file names, hashes and metadata values stay in your browser.
  • An image count, for credits. When you press the clean button, the page asks our server how many images you can clean and, after the run, reports how many were cleaned. Because of that check, cleaning needs an internet connection, even though the images stay on your device.
  • Coarse usage events. Our analytics record page visits and tool events built only from fixed values such as the file format and a count range. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Price

Inspecting an image is free and needs no account. The first 2 cleaned images are free without an account, a free account adds 2 credits, and after that each cleaned image uses 1 credit from a one-time Credit Pack or a Pro plan. With paid credits from a Credit Pack or Pro you can also clean up to 50 images per run; free credits clean one image at a time. Current prices are on the pricing page.

What it does not do

Removing metadata does not remove invisible watermarks such as Google SynthID, which sit in the pixels, or visible watermarks. It cannot promise that a platform will not show an AI label, because platforms can also read invisible watermarks, rely on what the uploader discloses or run their own detection. And it is not meant for hiding AI disclosures that law or platform rules require: our responsible use page explains where the line is.
